Okay, I may be completely out of the loop here but is it a butcher block counter top? If so, then I'm in-wood has natural anti-bacterial properties and is actually better for food preparation as long as you keep contaminate foods away from safe foods.
Thanks for the vote Trisha. I know that some people are against it being around sinks but I think I could seal it well enough, and then I just have to be clean and wipe up any water/messes right? *sigh* I do so love the look of it.
I think it looks beautiful too. Could you use a waterproof cealer like on the banisters, (can't think what it is called). That picture looks like your kitchen. Love, Mom

OOOOHHHhhhh! Me too! I've been looking at them for years! ...some day when I'm not renting anymore and have lots of money....
You can totally do it. I saw a wood counter on another Design sponge post and it was around a sink. Do It!
It would look wonderful in your kitchen and would really keep with the style of the house.
I love it too, Paula. I think that it would also be great for your house to put up bead board as your back splash.
Last comment was from me. :)
Looks beautiful! I have no strong opinions about the functionality. And you're so clean... I seriously doubt it would become stinky.
