So much to update...

It's been an incredibly long time since I last posted and I really had decided to stop blogging, but tonight I felt the urge to peruse some pictures and add a few to better remember this wonderful time of my life.

Time has flown by as a mom. Lanie is now 5 (almost 6) and started kindergarten last week. She is so cute and helpful and emotionally a giant. She is also such a social butterfly. She plays with friends constantly and loves it. I thought she would love kindergarten because she would be surrounded by so many other children but this second week of school has been a little difficult to get her to not cling to me and want to go to class. Last night while talking with James she told him the reason she doesn't want to go to class is because I am her best friend and she doesn't want to leave me. Sweet girl. I am glad she is my oldest child and hope that as her mother I don't mess things up too much for her because of my inexperience. :)

Gwen is 3 and such a sweet and spunky kid. She loves dressing up and playing with her big sister and can be so sweet to Willa. As a 3 year old she says some of the funniest things. The other day, James, being dramatic, said to Lanie because he finished off the last of some root beer, "I'm the worst dad ever!" Gwen, overhearing the conversation emphatically piped up, "No! You are the best daddy ever." She was so distressed and wanted him to know just how she felt.

Willa is now 16 months old! How did this happen? She is such an adorable baby in every way. She has astounded James and me with how well she communicates. She is picking up on words so quickly and makes up her own signs or uses ones we show her to tell us what she wants. The other day she and I were at Sam's Club getting groceries when all of a sudden she started frantically opening and closing her mouth like a fish and pointing behind me. I turned around and she pointed me around a corner to where a giant box of Goldfish crackers were. As we got closer she got more frantic in her gestures and lip smacking. It was so cute and so clear that she wanted the crackers that of course I couldn't say no. We now have a very large box of fish crackers and a very happy baby. Today she learned the new word "baby." I taught her that one as she looked at a picture of a baby on her package of diapers. "Baba," is what she says. A friend then dropped off her baby girl for me to babysit today and, without any prompting from me, Willa began to point at the baby saying "baba, baba." Oh this little girl is cute!

I'm so glad to have this little family of mine. It's hard work raising these kids and I hope I can do a good enough job. I'm trying to always find joy in the journey of this parenting adventure.
